The "Real" World...

So now that I've told you the history of blogs, some might be asking "what took so long for you to write one Bobby?". Well, I think there is always hesitation about putting yourself out there for other people to read and analyze and critique. There is a fear of rejection or of someone reading my heart-poured-out-thoughts and trashing it. But you know what, I think I'm at a place in my life where I don't really care about what people think. "What place are you in Bobby?" you might ask. Well, I'm 26, single, and unemployed. It don't get much better than that. The only way that could get any better is if I was living in my parents' basement. Which would be even more impressive since my parents don't have a basement. You see, basements in Texas are about as useful as a midget in a tall contest.............meaning they're not.

So anyway, I've been thinking, when will I reach the "real" world? All I heard in middle school was that I needed to be ready for high school "because that's when I hit the real world". Then during high school it's "prepare for college...it's the real world". Then when you're in college, all anyone will tell you is that college is the golden age and once you graduate "you hit the real world". Even after working at a camp, all I hear is that I'm leaving for a job in the "real world". My main question, what is the real world? Is it something that MTV has put on the air, throwing random people together living in a house where everyone hooks up? That's not the real world, that's just a freaking episode of "Friends". Does this mean that I've been living in a make-believe world complete with unicorns and dragons?

I don't know what signifies living in the real world but I'm very curious to find out....

LOL. Lizbeth beat me to what I was going to say. But definitely, when you find out what the real world is or - what I spend a lot of time thinking about - what it means to be a "grown up," please let us all know.

BTW, apparently this is a generational issue because everyone I know who is our age has this problem, but my parents most certainly did not. They can't figure out why we're all so confused about it.

Personally, I've been trying to remain fictional... Maybe you should try and focus there. After people in a fictional world can fly sometimes!

The real world is. That is it... it simply is.

The real world is not a certain time, place, or phase of our life, it simply is the now. How could it be anything less than what we are currently experiencing? I believe that MTV's Real World could not be more accurately named. However skewed by editing and production staff it may be, the idea is there. People living their lives is the 'real world'.

The real world is our stuggles, our fears, our joys, our relationships, our jobs.... our entire existence. To categorize the real world as something other than what we are currently experiencing is only an excuse. Let us stop being anxious about the 'real world' and realize that it is the now.
